Fred Linton

You have may have heard if the famous 2006 Angus Show Heifer of the Year “Rosebud” aka “Bailey”, campaigned by Cherry Knoll, but are you familiar with Fred and Deb Linton of Kirkwood, Pennsylvania? On their 45 head cow/calf operation, Fred and his wife Deb raised Bailey as she was out of their donor cow “Sasha.” Their successes didn’t stop there; recently they have raised the 4th overall steer at the 2008 Ohio State Fair which was sired by Wildcard and shown by Brittany Huffman. Or you’ve probably seen the success pictures of “Brinx” in the pages of the magazines with Seth Miller at the halter in 2010. You may recognize the “dalmation” steer, aka “Lincoln” shown by Kylee Shafer in 2011. And 2012 is off to a great start with a reserve champion victory for the full brother to “Brinx” being shown by MacKenzie Fruchey.

Deb is a registered nurse while Fred sells Pioneer Seed Corn and serves on the Township Board. Their daughter, Stacey, now resides with her family in Indiana where she is a school teacher. Fred and Deb’s son, Brad, can be found in Torrington, Wyoming, working for the Miller Family at M Lazy Heart Ranch. “Brad is the brains behind the operation”, says Fred. “I just breed to what he tells me to and calve out the cows. He deserves all the credit.” This was said just like a proud mother and father, but Brad also recognizes his parent’s hard work and dedication to their herd. The Linton’s aren’t only recognized nationally, they work hard to help local 4-H members learn the aspects of raising livestock and showing cattle.

This year they are excited for the calves to hit the ground. As time goes on, the Linton family will continue to raise successful club calves that will be demanded all across the nation.
